The Family Care Program offers proactive, long-term estate planning support through annual reviews, asset alignment, and legal access. Life changes fast, and outdated plans and misaligned assets can lead to probate, conflict, or loss of control. It is ideal for families, professionals, and business owners who want peace of mind and a plan that adapts to changing circumstances.
Estate planning is one of the most important legal steps you’ll ever take, but it’s also one of the most misunderstood. At Davidek Law Firm, we’ve worked with families across Central and South Texas who believed that simply creating a will or trust was enough. The truth? An estate plan is only effective if it stays current, aligned, and supported.
That’s why we created the Family Care Program (FCP), a relationship-based approach to estate planning designed to support you and your family at the signing table and through every chapter of life.
What Is the Family Care Program?
The Family Care Program is a comprehensive service that offers continued support, maintenance, and legal guidance after creating your estate plan. Instead of a “set it and forget it” model, the FCP ensures that your estate plan grows with you, your assets remain aligned, and your loved ones are prepared.
At its core, the program is about proactive legal care:
- Annual reviews of your estate plan
- Ongoing asset alignment and verification
- Open access to your legal team for questions or concerns
- Family meetings to promote clarity and confidence
- Coordination with your financial and tax advisors
- Secure digital access to key legal documents
- Invitations to exclusive educational workshops
The FCP transforms estate planning from a one-time event into an ongoing relationship that helps your plan succeed when it matters most.
Why traditional estate planning falls short
Most estate plans are static. They’re created once and then put away in a file cabinet. But life isn’t static. Assets change. Families grow. Laws evolve. If your estate plan doesn’t adapt, it can become outdated or unworkable.
Here’s what we’ve seen happen with “forgotten” plans:
- Real estate or investment accounts left outside the trust
- Beneficiary designations that no longer reflect your wishes
- Appointed guardians or trustees who are no longer available
- Legal documents that are no longer compliant with current laws
All of these issues can lead to probate, court involvement, or family conflict: the very things estate planning is meant to avoid.
The Family Care Program solves this problem by offering consistent legal follow-up and guidance, ensuring your plan always aligns with your goals and life.
The Davidek Law Firm estate planning process
Our preferred estate planning process is designed to be simple, thorough, and personalized. While every client’s journey is unique, most clients move through four core stages.
1. Intake call
This initial phone call allows our team to get to know you and understand your goals. We’ll ask about your family structure, assets, and concerns. If we believe we’re a good fit, we’ll schedule your initial consultation with one of our attorneys.
Note: Occasionally, if a situation is complex or unusual, we recommend a brief 15-minute call with an attorney before the full consultation. However, most clients go straight to the full initial meeting.
2. Initial consultation, engagement, and design meeting
This two-hour meeting is the heart of the estate planning process. In the first half, you and the attorney will:
- Discuss your goals and values
- Review your family dynamics
- Outline your assets
- Ask and answer key planning questions
If we mutually agree to move forward, you’ll engage our firm, and we’ll begin designing your estate plan in the second half of the meeting.
If you need more time to decide or your situation is complex, let’s schedule a separate design meeting to complete the planning process.
3. Zoom document review
After your plan is drafted, we’ll meet virtually to review every document together. This meeting ensures:
- You understand what your plan says
- You have a chance to ask questions or request revisions
- You feel confident moving forward to the final signing
This step is essential for ensuring everything aligns with your wishes, legally and personally.
4. Signing meeting
We’ll execute your estate plan documents together at this final in-person appointment. This typically takes about 30 minutes and is when your plan officially goes into effect.
5. Binder delivery meeting
Once everything is signed, we’ll prepare a custom estate planning binder for you. At this meeting, we’ll walk you through the physical copies of your plan and make sure you understand how everything is organized.
This binder is yours to keep and reference as needed. It’s also an excellent tool for sharing with trusted family members or advisors.
Family Care Program steps (after signing)
If you enroll in the Family Care Program during your planning process, your journey doesn’t end at signing. Instead, you’ll move into the ongoing care phase, which includes:
1. Asset alignment review
We’ll help you review your assets, including bank accounts, real estate, retirement plans, and more, to ensure they are properly titled and aligned with your estate plan. This prevents assets from being unintentionally excluded from your trust.
2. Asset alignment signing
Once we’ve reviewed your assets, we’ll prepare the paperwork to transfer or retitle them properly. We’ll also provide instructions for your financial institutions to make the process seamless.
3. Asset alignment verification
After submitting everything, we confirm that your institutions have completed the changes. We’ll check documents and account statements, verify updates, and step in if anything needs correcting.
4. Family connect meeting (optional)
This meeting can happen anytime after your documents are signed. We invite your loved ones, children, trustees, and financial advisors to meet with us and go over your estate plan together.
The goal? Transparency and clarity. We want everyone to understand their roles, your wishes, and how to carry out the plan if the need ever arises.
Many families say this meeting is one of the most valuable parts of the entire process.
Why clients love the Family Care Program
Here’s what our clients appreciate most about the FCP:
- Clarity – They know their plan is current and comprehensive.
- Confidence – They trust that their loved ones are protected.
- Continuity – They value having the same legal team year after year.
- Communication – They’re never left wondering who to call.
- Customization – Their plan evolves with their life.
The Family Care Program is ideal for families, professionals, and business owners who value long-term protection and proactive legal guidance, not just a stack of documents.
Frequently asked questions about the Family Care Program
What exactly is the Family Care Program (FCP)?
The Family Care Program is an ongoing estate planning service designed to help your plan grow with you. It includes annual plan reviews, asset alignment support, access to your legal team for questions or updates, family meetings, and coordination with your financial professionals. It’s not just a set of documents. It’s a relationship that ensures your plan stays effective over time.
Do I have to sign up for the FCP when creating my estate plan?
Not necessarily. While many clients choose to join during the planning process, you can opt in anytime after completing your estate plan. However, joining early ensures you benefit from continuous asset alignment and immediate access to all FCP services.
What’s the difference between traditional estate planning and the FCP?
Traditional estate planning typically ends once your documents are signed. The FCP provides continued legal support and maintenance. It keeps your documents up to date, ensures your assets remain properly titled, and gives your family clear guidance, minimizing the risk of probate or disputes later on.
How often will I meet with the firm under the FCP?
At a minimum, you’ll have an annual review, but you’re welcome to reach out any time life changes, like buying property, opening a business, welcoming a grandchild, etc. You’ll also have access to educational workshops and optional Family Connect Meetings.
What is the Family Connect Meeting and why is it important?
The Family Connect Meeting is an optional session where we meet with your loved ones, such as children or others who may be named in your documents as agents or trustees, as well as other advisors, such as your CPA or financial planner, to walk through your estate plan. It provides clarity, reduces confusion, and helps everyone understand their roles and your wishes ahead of time. It’s especially valuable for preventing future conflict or stress during emotional moments.
What if I change financial institutions or purchase new assets?
Great question! That’s exactly why the FCP exists. We’ll work with you to align new assets with your estate plan and verify that titles and beneficiary designations are accurate. We also follow up with your financial institutions to confirm everything was done correctly.
How do I know if I’m a good fit for the FCP?
If you want a lasting relationship with your legal team, value peace of mind, and understand that estate planning is an ongoing process, not a one-time event, the FCP is likely an excellent fit for you. It’s ideal for families, professionals, and business owners who want to protect their legacy and adapt their plan as life evolves.
Can I access my documents online?
Yes! You’ll have secure, cloud-based access to your estate planning documents at any time. Whether you’re traveling, managing an emergency, or working with a financial advisor, your documents are always available when you need them.
